The Waterfront Events Center in Stockton is a commercial development located in the heart of downtown Stockton

The old Hotel Stockton

Also known as the Waterfront Entertainment Complex, it includes the 10,000-seat Stockton Arena, the 5,000-seat Banner Island Ballpark, a Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center, a 592-stall parking structure, and commercial/retail space. The Stockton Waterfront Events Center is part of a massive revitalization project that include a marina, high-rise condominiums, and the Downtown San Joaquin Regional Transit District Center .

Stockton Arena is an indoor arena in Stockton, California. It is primarily used for ice hockey, indoor soccer and arena football. It is the home arena of the Stockton Thunder ECHL Hockey team, Stockton Cougars Professional Arena Soccer League team and Stockton Lightning af2 Arena football team. It opened in December 2005 and seats approximately 10,000 people. The arena at maximum capacity can seat 11,800 people. The Stockton Arena is part of a waterfront entertainment center which includes Banner Island Ballpark, the home of the Stockton Ports minor league baseball team.

Construction delays caused the California Cougars and Stockton Thunder to play on extended road trips during the beginning of their 2005/2006 season. Stockton Arena opened its doors to the public on December 2, 2005. The first sporting event was the Stockton Thunder hockey game on December 10, 2005 in front of a sold out crowd of 10,117.

The Stockton Arena hosted the 2008 ECHL All-Star game, World Wrestling Entertainment house shows for both SmackDown/ECW and Raw, and the July 26, 2008 "EliteXC: Unfinished Business" MMA event.

The Stockton Arena has also been host to concerts by numerous professional musicians, including Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Gwen Stefani, Vicente Fernandez & Ozzy Osbourne.

The cast members of the film High School Musical performed at the arena during their High School Musical: The Concert tour, on December 6, 2006.

On March 15 2009, The California Cougars won the first ever Championship Title here in the Stockton Arena, as the 2008-2009 PASL-Pro North American Champions.

On December 9, 2009 The Stockton Arena hosted the "Stockton Showcase" which featured a matchup between the Nationally Ranked California Golden Bears and the Pacific Tigers men's Basketball teams in front 8,704 fans, the largest crowd ever to see a Pacific Tigers basketball game in Stockton.

Banner Island Ballpark

Banner Island Ballpark is a baseball stadium located in Stockton, California, which seats over 5,300 people. It is the home field of the Stockton Ports, a minor league affiliate of the Oakland Athletics in the Class A California League.

History

The Banner Island Ballpark which cost $22 million, was unwrapped on April 28, 2005 with a sellout 7-4 -game where the Stockton Ports upset the San Jose Giants. The ballpark, part of a gigantic downtown renewal project for the Stockton waterfront, was constructed at the same time as the Arena and was incorporated into the waterfront park.

The Banner Island location is also the apparent location of the Ports predecessors, a late 1800s.Stockton baseball team. Old-timers claim that team was the stimulation for a poem by Ernest Thayer the Mudville Nine in Casey at the Bat, Before relocating to the new Banner Island ballpark, the Stockton Ports were named the Mudville Nine throughout the 2000 / 2001 baseball seasons.

The name

The designation "Banner Island Ballpark" is actually an unofficial name that is used among the Stockton Ports. administration and fans. The City of Stockton be in possession of the naming rights to the stadium and until the rights are be snapped up the ballpark is officially called the Stockton Ballpark.

The unofficial Banner Island name comes from from it is location. Banner Island was once a San Joaquin River delta island. As time passed infill connected the island to the mainland and only a southern shore remains. Although the fact the locale ino longer remains an island, the Banner Island monikerr has stuck.
